Getting ready for a spoon carving course

We run our spoon carving course a few times over the course of a year and we’ve got one coming up this weekend.  Getting ready for a spoon carving course involves checking that all of the tools are sharp and also getting hold of the raw materials.  So today we were in the woods felling a small birch tree.  We often use birch as it’s a traditional wood to use in Sweden, and we base much of our carving on Swedish knife and axe skills.

So take a look at this short video in which Gary fells a small birch and then sneds and cross cuts it with a chainsaw.
