Took my 16 year old granddaughter and her aunt, on a one day bushcraft course last weekend, where she learnt to use a sheath knife and folding saw safely to make a tent peg, and various methods of making fire. Challenging her comfort zone, and helping build her confidence was achieved in a stimulating and friendly setting.
My son (12 years) and I really enjoyed the course, we learnt lots and he was kept interested with fire lighting, stick collecting and fire making. Thank you.
Just home from a glorious autumn day with my daughter, and granddaughter where the aim was to engender an awareness of bushcraft skills and a bit of a comfort zone challenge for granddaughter. I think the day score a hit on both scores, and for me hearing a teenager say "I can't do it" and then see her succeed in lightings fire / igniting char cloth by the sun / whittle with a sheath knife was proof to me she learnt some essential skills that I hope she will build on. For my daughter it reignited a way of life she came to terms with in family camping / Girl Guide camps many years ago and may lead to further courses!
Gary is as I've found in the past, , very knowledgeable, holds your attention, and packs a lot into the day. Absolutely super day.
What an absolutely wonderful day. I honestly can't recommend this enough. Whatever your age or level of skill or knowledge, you will get something from this. Gary's calm and thoughtful teaching put us at ease, and the practical hands-on nature of the course meant we were constantly occupied. The day flew by, and honestly the only negative aspect was that we had only booked one day. I could have stayed for a week!
The topics covered was wide and varied, with firelighting being a highlight. Don't be put off by the prospects of rain either, we had a biblical downpour during which we were happily making tinder bundles and setting them alight!
A beautiful, calm place too - surrounded by wildlife and the sounds of the natural world.
Cannot recommend highly enough. Six out of five. Thanks
We had a fantastic day yesterday.. Gary was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful.. we learnt a lot of new skills from making tent pegs to building fires without matches/lighters.. would highly recommend for any age group..
