Making a woodland spatula

Monday saw us making a woodland spatula with a small group of home educated children we work with once a month.  And as there was a little wood left over I thought I’d make a video demonstrating how to make a spatula using a knife and pruning saw.  This time around we used sycamore; it’s a nice wood, straight grained, splits easy, has natural antisceptic properties and resists staining, plus we have lots of it and it grows very quickly.

There’s more information on our typical bushcraft tools in this post.

We look at the techniques involved in making a woodland spatula on our 1 Day Spoon Carving Course as well as on our 5 Day Bushcraft course.

You can see photos from those courses, as well as all our other courses, on our Facebook page.
