Hardwood or softwood for bow drilling?

When I’m teaching bow drilling I often get asked about using hardwoods or softwoods.  I’m not keen on those terms as they mean different things to different people.  In this video I explain why I don’t like ‘hardwood’ and ‘softwood’, and also what I find a more useful way to describe the materials used in bow drilling.

We talk about using hardwood or softwood for bow drilling on the IOL Bushcraft Competency Course.

You can see loads of photos from this course, as well as all of our other courses, on our Facebook page.
