Digging sticks

Digging sticks are about as simple a tool as you get.  We use them for getting to the edible roots of plants.  Be aware that you have to have the land owner’s permission before you uproot any plant; also make sure that it isn’t listed as a protected species in the Countryside & Wildlife Act.  Lastly, make sure that you forage sustainably so that you leave plenty of plants behind to reproduce.

You can watch our video around when is the best time to dig up burdock roots for eating.

We often use digging sticks on our 2 Day Fungus & Fruits Forage and also on our Hunter Gatherer Weekend.  You can see loads of photos from our foraging courses on our Facebook page.
