Last year we played around with a few designs for a woodland kiln to use on our Woodland Pottery Courses. We tried different dimensions, different chimneys, different appertures to feed in fuel and probably other things I’ve forgotten now! Some were definitely better than others and eventually we found a design that worked well and so we decided to build one out of brick so that we would have something a little more permanent and not have to rebuild the kiln everytime we ran the course. We’ve used engineering bricks with the hope that they will better withstand the heat.
Last week found us trialling our new woodland kiln to make sure that it worked. And it did a good job. Here’s a video of the morning.
You can find plenty of photos of our courses and people learning these types of skills on our Facebook page.
