Earlier this year I put together a post on charring birch polypore for tinder and it works really well. Which got me thinking about other fungus that could be charred and used as tinder.
Last week I found a chicken of the woods and decided to give it a go. So here’s a short video where I attempt charring chicken of the woods for tinder.
As a spoiler, it turned out well and took a spark from a ferro rod with ease.
We teach how to prepare and use fungus, such as charring chicken of the woods for tinder, on our 2 Day & 5 Day Bushcraft Courses, the IOL Bushcraft Competency Course.
You can see plenty of photos from all of these courses on our Facebook page.
