Wayfarer’s Weekend

What will I do on the Wayfarer’s Weekend?

Our Wayfarer’s Weekend is all about developing your bushcraft skillset and building your experience of travelling and living in the woods. From the very start of your weekend you’ll need to be self-reliant. From the meeting point you’ll traverse a stunning section of the North Downs, carrying all of your equipment with you, and set up camp in a virgin woodland location; from there you’ll light a fire and cook your own evening meal.

The next morning, after lighting another fire and cooking your own breakfast, you’ll move to a new location and set up camp again. And then on the last day, you’ll once more de-camp and move to the final location of the weekend.

During your time spent with us on this Wayfarer’s Weekend you will:

  • Put into practice previously learnt skills,
  • Safely use essential bushcraft tools including knife, folding saw and bow saw,
  • Make simple camp items such as a mallet, tent pegs and cooking utensils,
  • Light a number of fires with your own fire lighting kit,
  • Make a pot hanger to boil water and cook over,
  • Learn different methods of backwoods cooking,
  • Sharpen your knife in the field,
  • Make nettle cordage,
  • And of course, study the many trees and plants around us and understand what they can be used for,
  • Leave no trace!

At the end of our Wayfarer’s Weekend you will have increased your skills, knowledge and resilience and be better placed to undertake your own adventures.

This is an on going love affair with a course that has been amazing. I have been on this course several times and it has never disappointed.
You are able to practice what you have either learnt from Gary or from other sources. It is a safe environment to experiment with different set ups and equipment. Gary and Paul were great fonts of information and expertise in the field of Bushcraft. It is a relaxed and friendly environment to learn new tricks.

A very rewarding course!

I had a great time on this course. It was challenging but this is what you need to get the most from a bushcraft course. There were so many things to take away from this, but I am pleased that I finally learned how to set up a tarp! I also discovered how important it is to choose the right ground for your camp, not on a slope and not under a Beech tree!

Gary is a very patient and knowledgeable instructor. He is a pleasure to be around, and I highly recommend this bushcraft course.

A fantastic opportunity to test and build upon our skills!

This was my second course with Jack Raven Bushcraft, and I really enjoyed putting the skills I'd learnt previously to the test. We benefited from some bad weather, that made fire-lighting more challenging and put our shelter set-ups to the test - really confidence-building!. Learning how to make mallets and pot-hanger structures for cooking was enjoyable; Gary and Pete's expertise and patient guidance at every step helped us to get the most out of activities, and we learned a lot about plants and foraging from Jules, too.

Another fantastic course delivered by the Jack Raven team. This was my third. A really good way for those with some bushcraft knowledge and skills to build on. Gary and Pete were on hand to give guidance where needed. For anyone who wishes to travel through the wilderness, this course really helps to understand the need for weight management. Highly recommended
