Fantastic Fire

Me and my partner had an amazing time with Martyn for one-to-one fire starting Even though we had very little experience, we were able to learn how to make fire using an array of methods, Martyn was an amazing teacher, and put us at ease straight away. We even came home and got our bow drill to work! We would highly recommend these sessions and look forward to returning in the future. x

Really fantastic

I spent a really amazing day with Gary and Nicola at the secret hide out on Christmas-eve-eve on a filthy wet day. They were both very welcoming and it was so wonderful to learn all the important basics that I feel everyone should know from a young age, and I was scratching my head at how I'd got to 44 and considered myself a country girl and didn't know all this! From sharpening knives, to collecting the best branches, 101 ways to light a fire, how to tell the time from the sun with your fingers, how to tie back a wind-billowed rain mac, getting the right coloured equipment...it was great. Gary has a very special gift of imparting knowledge calmly and comprehensively without a hint of mansplaining!

Thank you so much- a really recommendable day!! So much more to learn now! Can't wait.

I had an amazing time on my private tuition with Jack Raven. The instructor was extremely patient, knowledgable and amazing conversation. I will certainly be returning for another session!

2 day private course

My brother and I had a 2 day private course with Gary. Before the course, Gary got in touch to find out more about my experience and motivations so that he could tailor the course content, which was much appreciated.

During the course itself, Gary was great at explaining/demonstrating the various skills, patient in helping us practice them and also answered all manner of questions we threw his way.

The site itself is great. Nestled in some amazing woodlands, it has everything you need, including a cosy tent with a wood fire.

We did the course over the last weekend of February so it was cold and wet at times, but I'm glad we got to practice the skills in those conditions rather than perfect ones.

I would wholeheartedly recommend the course to anyone interested in learning more abouts bushcraft or just the outdoors in general.

Thanks Gary!
