1 Day Leather Working Course

What will I do on this leather working course?

We have designed this course around the making of a simple notebook holder. We have chosen this as a project as it covers all the basic skills required to produce almost any small leather goods. There is also large scope for customisation of your project.

Along the way you will learn about different leathers, techniques and tools.

Typically, you will, under the expert guidance and instruction of Paul Bradley:

  • Use the provided pattern to produce a leather cover for a standard 5.5 x 3.5 notebook
  • Be guided on how to design and draw out and customise a pattern
  • Learn all about the different tools used in leather working and how to use them
  • Learn how to cut out, assemble and mark for stitching
  • Learn and practice the techniques of the traditional saddle stitch to complete the assembly of your notebook
  • Learn how to finish your project with edge burnishing techniques and other small but important details that add to the overall professional look.

A really great chance to begin a lifetime of making beautiful things!

Excellent course with enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructors. Was able to make a lovely notebook cover which looks wonderful and all my own work. Would thoroughly recommend as a first step in leatherwork.

Brilliant introductory course in leatherworking. Both Paul and Bob the instructors were excellent both with their attitude, enthusiasm and knowledge but also being very generous of their time. The venue is wonderful with a special atmosphere with plenty of parking and other facilities. Bravo Team JR !!

Fantastic course! Both trainers there on the day were very knowledgeable and very generous with their time; explaining everything and helping out at various stages of the day. Absolutely love my leather notebook holder I made. Thank you!"

Awesome day

Just had a brilliant day with Paul, (lead instructor) and Bob (excellent bush crafty, leather worker who made a truly remarkable sheath for my Fallkniven A1 Pro knife). I didn't expect to learn so much as well as come away with a professional looking leather wallet for an A5 note book. The workshop is warm with all facilities (parking, mini kitchen, toilet etc.) but would benefit from better overhead lighting for us oldies. The course inspires confidence and a will to explore leather working at home. The tools provided were of a quality made to last and therefore easy to use. As with all Jack Raven courses the facilities, instruction and course content were of the highest standard.
