Judith attended our 2 Day Bushcraft Course recently. She’s a retired nurse and came on her own because she wanted to do something adventurous and couldn’t find anyone to come with. A very courageous thing to do!!
Shortly afterwards Judith sent us this poem that she wrote about her time with us. Thank you!
Well now here’s my story
Of an adventure so true
A weekend in the woodland
Fellow campers and crew
The weather it was chilly
Wet and windy too
But did it dampen my spirit
No way, I loved it through and through
The wind it blew so strongly
Through the canopy of the trees
The rain it hammered upon my tent
But it didn’t bring me to my knees
I lay there just listening
Hoping my tent wouldn’t leak
In the morning all I had was a puddle
In the corner by my feet
I shivered in the night time
As the temperature did drop
But focused on the adventure
I didn’t want this to be a flop
The course was just brilliant
In teaching me new skills
Down to the basics
Without all the frills
Collecting nettles from the camp
Stripping them to remove their sting
Hang them up and dry them out
Before turning into string
Showing us safely how to use a knife
Best to learn this quickly before any strife
Whittling was just brilliant
And very relaxing too
Split some wood with the knife
And a handmade mallet too
Start a fire from scratch
In a few different ways
Keep this skill with you and
Never let it stray
Thank you Gary for The teaching you have given me
Thank you Nicola for the meals Provided for our tea
Thank you fellow campers For a journey unique and true
I also need to mention the lovely Willow too
