Woodland Pottery

What’s it about

Clay is a readily available material that our hunter gatherer ancestors used for millennia to turn into a wide variety of both functional and decorative items. Join us at our ancient woodland camp for a relaxing woodland pottery day and find out all about collecting and refining clay as well as how to transform this wonderful material into beautiful items.

What will I do on this woodland pottery course?

You’ll learn how to make your own beautiful clay items from start to finish. You will:

  • Gather local raw clay
  • Learn how to refine the clay and make ready for use
  • Make a variety of small, simple clay items like: bowls, pendants and beads
  • Make a clay brick to be used for kiln building
  • Build a primitive kiln
  • Fire your clay pieces in the kiln
  • Take home what you’ve made

All tools and materials are included in the cost of our woodland pottery course.

You can see our complete course schedule here.

I attended Woodland Pottery and thoroughly enjoyed my day. Instructions were clear, questions answered concisely and the day was very well organised. The site is located in a beautiful wooded area which is great as this provides shade during the hot weather. The area is well thought out and is an excellent training setting. I would highly recommend courses delivered by this organisation. Thank you to all at Jack Raven.

Absolutely brilliant day with Lily 10, Woodland Pottery in May. Lots learnt and great fun was had. Thanks as always to Gary, Nicola and the crew, I think I can now get Lily to do some more courses, in the words of H E Bates “Perfick”.
