Held in conjunction with Kaos Blacksmiths, this  unique 1 day forge and fire course combines the ancient art of blacksmithing with leather working and essential bushcraft fire lighting skills.

It’s designed for anyone who’d like a fun day in the woods learning both blacksmithing and leather working.

What will I do on a Forge and Fire course?

You’ll be taken on a trip back in time and taught some of the skills of our ancestors.  Ross Berry, our resident blacksmith, will show you how to use an iron age pit forge and guide you through the techniques to make your own traditional fire steel.

You’ll also make a leather sheath for your firesteel, char cloth to ignite and be given expert tuition in how to use your traditional fire steel.

All tools and materials are included in the cost of this course.

Had a brilliant day, hadn’t done any blacksmithing for over sixty years when I was an apprentice!
The course was well organised and everyone was able to create a fire steel and sheath and start a fire with it!
All the Jack Raven team were super helpful and there was a really great atmosphere between them and all who attended !
Possibly the best Fathers Day present I’ve ever had!

    A very enjoyable day

I came to the Fire and Forge day with a group of friends. The location is fantastic and we all had an excellent day. We were all looking forward to the metalwork but agreed afterwards that the leather work was at least as enjoyable. The hosts were great throughout and Ross the blacksmith was a very entertaining character. Now to find myself a leather working kit and an anvil!
Thanks, I'll be back for more.

I was gifted this course by my partner, Denise. I had had a little previous experience with forging but I'd never done leatherwork or succeeded in making fire. The course was well organised, intimate and friendly with a small number of participants split into two groups. At the end we had something we'd made - a tool to make fire. This was perhaps mankind's first massive leap? What a thrill!

Had a great day making a fire steel and leather pouch. Lovely venue in the woods. Will definitely be back for another experience. Many thanks to all the team.
