There is a growing body of scientific evidence supporting our view that exposure to the natural world is good for both physical and mental wellbeing, for instance at Essex University’s Green Exercise initiative.
Whilst we regularly have people attending our scheduled courses who have mental health experiences, we can also deliver courses from ½ to 5 days in duration designed for specific needs, for instance post-traumatic stress disorder. These activities can also be delivered as part of a longer planned programme.
We’ve delivered bushcraft days to Talk It Out, a self help group based in Deal for people with experience of depression. You can see the newspaper article about their time with us here.
We’ve also ran sessions for Catching Lives and Porchlight.

I was also with the above group and what struck me most about the day was how dedicated Gary & Nicola are to their students, catering to individual as well as group interests. We had a go at chopping wood, carving utensils, firelighting, making cord from nettles; plant identification and a brief introduction to different shelter types. Lunch was superb - pigeon breast & salad garnished with primroses and ramsons gathered earlier in the day. It was so relaxing, interesting & fun that I have booked longer courses with Jack Raven Bushcraft.

I run a group for people with mental illness and also suffer with myself.I and some members of my group had a jack raven experience and not one of us wanted to go home.Gary and Nicola made us all most welcome and we will definitely be visiting very soon.It was an amazing experience and cannot rate it highly enough.
