Preparing nettles to make cordage

Cordage is everywhere in our normal lives to the extent that we take it for granted, but in a wilderness or survival situation it’s invaluable.  Being able to produce high quality cordage from natural materials is a great bushcraft skill to possess.

I’ve written about preparing nettles to make cordage previously in this post but I thought I’d do a short video to accompany it.  In the video I talk about when to harvest your nettles and how to seperate the outer fibres (the bits you want) from the inner, woody pith.

We cover preparing nettles to make cordage on many of our courses, including the IOL Bushcraft Competency Certificate course, our 5 Day Bushcraft Course, and of course on our Cordage & Containers day.  You can see plenty of photos from all of these courses on our Facebook page.
