Insulating yourself from the ground

When you’re camping  overnight, insulating yourself from the ground is imperative to not only getting a good night’s sleep but to staying warm.  This is because you will lose heat to the ground through conduction and so you need to get some insulation between you and the ground.  This could be a roll mat or it could be a rudimenatry bed that you could use in a debris shelter.

Whilst the video is primarily aimed at bushcrafters, the advice is good for any kind of camping.

You can find more hints and tips for staying warm whilst camping in this post.

We teach about the importance insulating yourself from the ground on our 2 Day & 5 Day Bushcraft Courses, the IOL Bushcraft Competency Course and also our 2 Day & 5 Day Survival Courses.

You can see plenty of photos from all of these courses on our Facebook page.
