Bushcraft uses for birch

Birch is an incredibly useful tree for us in bushcraft, from providing tinder and kindling, to sap to drink and bark to make containers.  It’s the second most common tree in the Britiush Isles (after oak) and is pretty straightfoward to identify.  If you can only identify one tree, birch would be a good one (although I’d suggest learning as many as you can, especially their properties).

Watch this short video where Gary talks about various bushcraft uses for birch.

We teach bushcraft uses for birch on our 2 Day & 5 Day Bushcraft Courses, the IOL Bushcraft Competency Course and also our 2 Day & 5 Day Survival Courses.  You can see plenty of photos from all of these courses on our Facebook page.
