Who’s it for?
We’ve designed this Nordic crafts weekend with Kaos Blacksmiths to give a sound introduction to anyone interested in working with metal and green wood, all based in a stunning outdoor setting at our ancient woodland camp in Kent.
We don’t believe that you can learn both of these fantastic skills in a single course anywhere else.
What will I do?
We’ve combined two traditional craft skills for this unique weekend – metal working and greenwood working. You will be shown, and given the opportunity, to make a Viking style knife and carve a Swedish spoon from greenwood.
We will show you how to use an iron age pit forge, where you will make your very own Viking knife.
You’ll be shown, and given time, to make a sheath for your knife.
We’ll teach you a variety of Swedish axe and knife carving techniques.
You will also learn to identify which strokes are best suited to different kinds of cuts.
- You’ll then make your own Swedish style spoon from greenwood.
There might even be some Scandinavian dishes on the menu. A lot packed into this Nordic themed craft weekend, but if there is any spare time we’ll throw in some bushcraft as well!

Originally posted on our Facebook page.Brilliant Nordic Craft weekend. Thank you so much all of you for making this the best course I have been on in years. Both Matt and I learned loads but had such a relaxing time as well. Nicola, the food was fantastic and has inspired both of us to try new things. Gary and Ross, your complete professional knowledge and understanding of your skills delivered in such a calm confident and fun way was inspirational to both of us in our delivery of our Archery sessions. If you only ever go on one course this year, go on a Jack Raven course. you won't be disappointed. I'm already looking forward to my next one. Thanks Guys.

We all had an amazing time and learnt so much... Will hopefully be back!
Excellent location and well equipped campsite in a mixed 35 acre woodland.
Gary, Nicola and Ross have extensive knowledge of bushcraft. They lead, share & support each activity with patience and obvious enjoyment. Working at individual pace there is time to achieve high levels of finish on each activity and to add extra elements if you move ahead. Techniques and skills are well articulated – giving confidence. There was time to chat while working, and everybody had fun from breakfast to when they turned-in. Meal times were a special treat.
If you're looking for a well planned & delivered course, satisfaction in your achievements and an excellent experience then Jack Raven Bushcraft and Kaosblacksmiths are the organisations to choose.
This course is an awesome weekend away in the woods. Both Gary from Jack Raven Bushcraft and Ross from Kaos Blacksmiths both have great knowledge of their subjects and made the days great fun with lots of good banter with our group.
I was really pleased we got to the chance to pick up new skills in whittling and blacksmithing in such great surroundings.
Thanks also go to Nicola for feeding everyone for the whole weekend with really tasty Scandinavian inspired food!
Will definitely be looking to book again with Jack Raven and Kaos in the future. Thanks again guys.
