1 Day Spoon Carving Course

spoon carving

Who’s it for?

Based at our ancient woodland camp in Kent, our 1 Day Spoon Carving course has been put together for anyone who would like to understand how to use simple tools to create beautiful items from greenwood.

Whilst we are certain that you will leave us with a great hand carved spoon, you will also leave us with new found confidence and ability having mastered the use of the knife and axe.

What will I do?

We’ll start the day by looking at a variety of  carving techniques using  knives.  Safety and being able to work with minimum of effort will be the main focus of the session.  You will also learn to identify which strokes are best suited for different kinds of cuts. After this session you will be ready for a days carving.

During your day with us, you will also learn about:

  • Properties of different woods,
  • Selecting your wood,
  • Splitting techniques,
  • Swedish spoon design,
  • How to sharpen your carving tools.

Carving knives, draw knives, scorps and crook knives will be provided.

A really great chance to begin a lifetime of carving beautiful things!

The Best Day!

Booked as a Birthday present for my eldest daughter, we thought we’d make a family day out of it. So glad we did, we had so much fun! Beautiful location, very, very friendly people, delicious food and good conversation. We even have a set of spoons (well, an approximation of spoons!), to show for it! Would not hesitate to recommend this course and we will be looking at the other courses available so we can come again in the not too distant future. Thank you very much to; Gary, Nicola, Bob and especially Willow the dog!

An eye opener!

This was a gift to me so it might not have been one I would have chosen. But so glad I came. As a beginner there was plenty of help and guidance and loads of encouragement. I learned lots of new things and realised how much more there is to learn too. Everyone very friendly. Lovely peaceful setting. Came away with a recognisable spoon too!

I made a spoon

Thanks for a great day. It was really enjoyable to spend a day in the woods learning a new skill and to come away with something to show for it. Everyone was really patient, friendly and knowledgeable. It took a lot of time and few blisters and nicks but I'd definitely recommend to anyone who thinks it's something they'd be interested in.

excellent day

I was given this day as a present and as a beginner was rather nervous but needn't have been. The guys running the course were really friendly and helpful without being intrusive. A very calm focussed day and s slightly wonkey spoon. I learnt a lot about. Carving greenwood and will continue to use those skills. I would definitely go on another course.
